Records including narrative, statistical, and pictorial records and correspondence documenting educational demonstrations and medical benefit programs of the bureau. Included are records on the emergency maternity and infant care program, hearing demonstrations, maternal and child health centers, maternal and child health demonstrations, an obstetrical education program, trailer classrooms, work with the Wisconsin Emergency Relief Administration, and other activities. The Visual Materials document various programs including mobile health care services, children's health examinations, and classes for mothers and children.

In 1919, the State Board of Health created the Bureau of Child Welfare and Public Health Nursing. A 1944 reorganization established the Maternal and Child Health Section which included the Bureau of Maternal and Child Health.
